activ is the partner of a summer camp for Special Olympics athletes

The summer sports camp "Camp Shriver" for children with intellectual disabilities was opened on June, 22, in Almaty. The camp was organized by the Public Association "Special Olympics" with the support of the company "Kcell".

70 young athletes, 10 coaches and 15 volunteers will come together from 22 June to 3 July at the International School "Haileybury Almaty", where young athletes can take part in individual and team sports competitions, learn new sports and find like-minded people. Worldwide movement "Camp Shriver" exists since 1962, and the first camp in Almaty was organized five years ago. For this short period, "Camp Shriver" has become an important link in the process of assistance and support of Kazakhstan children with intellectual disabilities.

"Our company has been a partner of "Special Olympics Kazakhstan" for 15 years. We believe that the atmosphere of children's sports camp helps special athletes not only to improve their athletic skills, but also to feel the joy of communicating with new friends and associates. We support the idea of an inclusive society, and presume that this format of communication and interaction will help people with disabilities to be real members of it" - said Arti Ots, Chief Executive Officer of "Kcell".

This year, the young athletes will be given the opportunity to express themselves in six sports: indoor soccer, badminton, basketball, swimming, bocce and floorball, and one day there will be held a friendly mini-football match with the participation of volunteers from the staff of the company "Kcell". Subscribers of "Kcell" corporate groups in social networks are also allowed to take part in sport activities within the "Camp Shriver".

"Special Olympics" is the world's largest year-round program of sports training and competitions for people with intellectual disabilities, founded in 1968 by the Kennedy family (US). More than one million people in 170 countries around the world do 26 summer and winter Olympic sports at local, national and international level. "Special Olympics" not only conducts trainings, tournaments and other sports events for children and adults in Kazakhstan, but also organizes the participation of special athletes in international competitions.
